About Me
My name is James Higginbotham and I have a beautiful wife, Talinda, and an energetic daughter, Kayla. I have lived in the Central Texas area since 1993, after moving up from a suburb of Houston.
Professionally, I am a software architect, specializing in Ruby and Rails and Java/JEE architecture and development. I have worked on a large number of projects, both for Fortune 500 customers as well as startups in the 2 to 20 employee range. I am often required to engage with a customer early, assist with analysis/requirements gatherings, size the project, build a team, and lead the design and development of the project through final delivery.
My family and I attend Calvary Austin, which is affiliated with Calvary Chapel of Costa Mesa. We are a Bible-based church that focuses on expository preaching through the Bible, such that a topic is addressed as often as God speaks about it. Our beliefs are available online, along with a rich archive of past messages, dating back many years. I led the Web Ministry from 2000-2004 and created/led a new IT ministry in 2004-2005, all as a volunteer. I grew the IT ministry to a team of 10 volunteers, raising leaders to manage three distinct areas within the ministry. I am now a training coordinator currently focused on leader discipleship.
This blog focuses on capturing the lessons learned during that time, as well as lessons learned while working with other ministry leaders to assist our church duringa high growth period. If you wish to learn more about recruiting and managing volunteers, or just want to grow your leadership skills, this is the blog for you. I have setup a Squidoo lense to guide your reading through specific topics in this blog.
